GreenWave — kelp hatchery, seed bank and nursery
New Haven, Connecticut, with California program work · Out of state
Tier: registerednonprofit
What they do
GreenWave runs a commercial-scale kelp seed bank and nursery, revamped in 2022, producing gametophyte cultures and seeded twine using next-generation culturing methods. It has worked with The Nature Conservancy's California program and Hog Island Oyster Company on bull kelp cultivation strategies to support California restoration and farming. GreenWave also publishes a nursery manual and runs a kelp hatchery training course covering gametophyte culturing, sorus processing, and culture media. For California operators it functions today mainly as a technical-assistance and training source.
