What they do
The Fisheries Biology department at Cal Poly Humboldt maintains gametophyte cultures of bull kelp and winged kelp and produces seeded twine for Humboldt Bay trials, in partnership with the ProvidenSea seaweed farm. The lab developed CLASH — the Core Lit Apparatus for Seaweed Hatcheries — a non-proprietary bioreactor for germplasm-based seed production. Whether seed is supplied to outside growers is not publicly documented.
