What they do
Announced in March 2023, the Aquarium of the Pacific joined a multi-institution partnership to hold bull kelp samples in stasis as part of a conservation genetics effort. The work complements gametophyte banking happening in university labs and safeguards genetic diversity of declining Northern California populations. The Aquarium acts as a repository and backup site rather than a supplier. Redundant storage across institutions is exactly the resilience the draft standard asks for.
